Wine Review: This opaque and very dark purple colored Cabernet from the Meteor Vineyard in Napa opens with a black raspberry and black currant bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, and slightly acidic. However, the acidity does smooth out with some air. The flavor profile is a plum and red currant blend with notes of oak, menthol, black pepper, and green olive. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins are nicely prolonged. Our tasting group suggested pairing this Cab with short ribs. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Single Vineyard : The Meteor Vineyard is in the Eastern Hills, on the Mt. George watershed, just east of Napa at the sight of the old Stagecoach road. The owner asked us to be involved as one of the first winemakers to work with this fruit, Coombsville District Cabernet Ranch. The soil is loamy with large soft ball-sized cobble stone. The 2005 Meteor Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich but accessible wine. On the nose, the wine exudes classic Cabernet aromas of anise, leather and dark fruit. Subtle floral aromas interwoven with bright red fruit show the unique qualities of this vineyard and add to the complexity which display the virtues of this one of a kind terroir. The bold structure and velvety tannins coat the palate and leave a finish.
