Wine Review: We really enjoyed this light yellow colored Chardonnay from South Africa. This wine opens with an old oak infused light apricot like bouquet. On the palate, this full bodied wine is pleasantly viscous and creamy. The flavor profile is a crème brulee and mild apple with a hint of caramel and minerality. The finish is dry and its touch of minerality lingers for quite some time. We felt this Chard would pair perfectly with Legal’s Halibut stuffed with Imperial crabmeat. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Located in Elgin, a cool coastal region quickly gaining a reputation for complex, minerally whites, the Sutherland property is owned and farmed by the heralded Thelema Mountain Vineyards. This is Sutherland’s maiden Chardonnay release, and the bright, vibrant bottling combines fresh citrus and stone fruit flavors with a well-integrated toasty oak component. It shows surprising complexity for such a young wine and should age gracefully over the next several years.
