Wine Review: This Sauvignon Blanc is very different from many of the others that we covered. It opens with unique honey and clover flower bouquet with hints of ripe mango and pineapple. On the palate, it is medium bodied, slightly acidic, crisp, yet rich. The flavor profile is a honeyed green apple with notes of banana and carmelized sugar, like a creme brulee topping. The finish shows a hint of acidity. This is a Sauvignon Blanc that will appeal to readers who like Rhone white grapes like Roussanne and Marsanne. Readers who prefer a New Zealand styled Sauvignon Blanc might not prefer this unique style. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Extremely low-yielding Sauvignon Blanc vines produce an intense, complex Sauvignon Blanc. The Stolpmans refuse to follow the modern day norm of diluting their Sauvignon Blanc through irrigation and fertilized soils. The wine is a departure from thin, watery, one-dimensional wines. The 2009 lasts in the mouth with a crisp and juicy finish, after an aromatic display of lemon and white flowers. The Sauvignon Blanc has an unusual weight and full-bodied texture stemming from the fruit concentration and 100% Sur Lie aging. The wine delivers a complex package of bright fruit, viscosity and crisp acidity without being overpowering.
