Wine Review: If you love a fruit bomb styled Pinot, you are going to love this one from Stemmler. It is dark ruby colored and opens with very fragrant blackberry and black raspberry bouquet with hints of smoky oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, very smooth, savory and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a rich and concentrated ripe blackberry and plum blend with notes of black currant jam and nicely integrated oak. I also detected hints of minerality throughout. This Pinot is pretty complex and very interesting. The finish is dry and its mild tannins are nicely prolonged. This Pinot is perfect for drinking on its own, because of all its ripe fruit. With food, I would pair it with a sharp hard cheese or fresh sliced Norwegian salmon. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2009 Stemmler Estate Grown Pinot Noir beautifully shows off the wonderful 2009 Pinot growing season. Medium ruby in color with a hint of purple at the core, the nose bursts from the glass with bright cherry, raspberry, orange peel, anise, vanilla, and the aroma of fresh cut flowers. The palate is lively, vibrant and fresh, with sweet red cherry and cranberry at the outset, opening to darker flavors of wild blackberry, leather, briar, cocoa, and fresh fig. The finish shows firm tannin and a flinty, iron-like character suggesting this wine will only get better with more time in the bottle.
