Wine Review: This brilliant ruby colored Zinfandel opens with a ripe plum bouquet with hints of orange peel. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, slightly viscous and round. The flavor profile is a candied and spicy mild red currant with hints of cinnamon, black pepper, and tangerine. The finish is dry and shows nice finesse as it fades away. This dessert wine would pair well with chocolate mousse. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This is a very special wine for us. It is named for our 12 year-old daughter, Casey Jane. The port is made from very ripe Zinfandel and a pot-distilled eau-de-vie. That is, the alcohol used to "spike" the fermenting juice to arrest the fermentation is an artisan brandy made by Clear Creek of Portland from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gewurztraminer. The Zinfandel provides vibrant blackberry fruit and fine-grained tannins, the eau-de-vie adds an exotic orange zest aroma and, unlike real Ports (which by law must use industrial grade, government supplied brandy) a very smooth, almost voluptuous finish. Casey is very proud of "her" wine.
