Wine Review: This slightly cloudy dark red colored Sangiovese from Selvapiana is terrific. It opens with a very inviting and fragrant red cherry and cedar bouquet with hints of blueberry, pencil shavings and dried herbs. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and savory. The flavor profile is a tasty tart dried cherry and cedar plank blend with notes of wonderfully integrated grainy minerality. I also detected hints of Skoal, teaberry and Oolong tea towards the end. The finish is very dry and its moderate tannins are quite dusty and sticky. They linger for quite some time. This wine Old World styled Sangiovese would benefit from some decanting. It would pair well with beef braciole (braciola) or your favorite steak topped with sautéed porcini mushrooms. Enjoy – Ken
