Wine Review: This pale straw colored Sauvignon Blanc from Santa Barbara is interesting because it has a little oak mixed in. It opens with a pleasant pear and gentle pineapple bouquet. On the palate, this wine is light to medium bodied, pleasantly acidic and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a green melon and Anjou pear blend with notes of minerality and touch of light oak. I also detected hints of mild pineapple. The finish is dry and its flavors drift away nicely. This wine is food friendly and a second glass is warranted. It would be a perfect match for chicken piccata or chicken francese. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Bruce barrel fermented 20% of the juice in neutral oak puncheons to give texture to the lean character of this wine without compromising the racy acids naturally found in Sauvignon Blanc. This results in richness and a silky mouthfeel while maintaining true varietal expression. This fresh-tasting wine has its own distinctive flavor, is a great alternative to Chardonnay and serves equally well with moderately spicy foods, seafood and salads.
