Wine Review: This translucent and dark red colored Nerello Mascalese opens with a lingonberry and rose petal bouquet with hints of red cherry and dried herbs. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, delicate, and seamless. The flavor profile is a stone dust and a slightly tart red plum blend with notes of kumquat and dried herbs. I also detected hints of faint lingonberry and nutmeg in the aftertaste. The finish is dry and its well-managed moderate tannins drift away nicely. I would pair this tasty and very versatile Nerello with a crispy veal parmigiana. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: This wine draws its tasting strength and extraordinary aromas of incense of medicinal herbs, hibiscus and wild fennel from the lava sands. The wine is luminous and lyrical, describing without filters the character and refinement of the great mountain red wines, though at latitudes near Africa. Tannins of compact density are drawn with elegance. The sweetness and generosity of wild fruit and currants mingles with aromas of incense and beeswax, a faint almost salty flavor invites a further sip. The character of this wine allows the most courageous pairings with dishes of similar distinction. Game, truffles, rock fish with complex sauces, cheeses and salumi.
