Wine Review: This light yellow colored Gewurztraminer from Novy opens with a fragrant orange and lime bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, creamy, and shows a touch of acidity. The flavor profile displays some nice complexity. There are tangerine and lychee flavors that are nicely complimented by hints of lime and spice. The finish is dry and pleasantly refreshing. This wine is food friendly and would pair well with halibut. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Our goal in making a Gewurztraminer was to make an honestly, truly, painfully, dry rendition of the grape. It seems that many Gewurzs these days are dry-ish. We chose not to follow this path but rather ferment the wine to complete dryness. We also chose to ferment the wine in stainless steel and to prevent the wine from going through malolactic fermentation. This combination has produced a very crisp, precise white wine. While possessing much of Gewurz's floral aromatics, the wine also shows a distinct mineral and slightly charred character. The mouthfeel is full, with loads of tropical fruit flavors, and the finish is tart, tight, and mouthwatering. This is our first Gewurz and the first crop from these vines so this may be foolish, but it wouldn't surprise us, given its great acidity, if this Gewurz was even better after a year in bottle.
