Wine Review: I recently re-tried this wine. I scored it the same as I did initially back in March 2011. It is opaque and pitch black colored. It opens with a mild blackberry bouquet with a hint of blueberry. On the palate, this wine is medium to full bodied, nicely balanced, and smooth. The flavor profile is a mild mineral infused gentle black currant with hints of blackberry. I also detected hints of black pepper and a touch of oak. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins stick around for a while after the wine is gone. This wine would pair well with a flat iron steak with a red wine and shallot reduction sauce. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Matetic EQ Syrah 2008 a dark violet color, almost black exhibiting the characteristic aromas of Syrah with notes of spices such as pepper, fruits such as black cherry and blackberry all mixed in a surprising complexity. It is concentrated on the palate; the tannins are firm but rounded. It is a balanced wine, fresh and with long persistent finish.
