Wine Review: This pale yellow colored Riesling was very well received by our recent tasting panel. It opens with a light melon like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, and slightly viscous with a touch of fizz. The flavor profile is a light lemon tea and orange with some infused minerality. The finish is refreshing, tingly, and subtle. The panel felt that this wine would be a perfect option with peach glazed pork smothered in caramelized onion or bacon wrapped shrimp. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The weathered red volcanic and slate soil of the Urziger Wurzgarten (pronounced ERTS-iger VERTS-garten) vineyard make it unique on the Mosel. It is an insanely steep site that makes wines with an exotic, spicy aroma and a mesmerizing earthiness. There is no other vineyard in the Mosel valley that produces wines so bursting with tropical fruit flavors. The Dr. Loosen estate’s oldest vines (up to 120 years old) are found here. The Spatlese (“late-picked”) designation means the grapes get a week or two of extra hang time for higher ripeness and deeper flavors than Kabinett. This Spatlese, from a truly “grand cru” vineyard in the village of Urzig, has a juicy mouthful of exotic fruits and a tongue-tingling spiciness.
