Wine Review: This pitch black colored Syrah based blend from Calcareous really impressed me and our mini-tasting group. It opens with a fragrant blackberry and boysenberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and rich. The flavor profile is a very tasty mild mineral infused blackberry jam with notes of black currant, blueberry and oak. I also detected hints black licorice and a touch of espresso in the background. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins and flavors linger for quite a while. This terrific wine reminds me top notch Shiraz from Barossa. It would be a perfect pairing with a well-marbled ribeye steak. Enjoy - Ken
