Wine Review: This ruby colored Zinfandel from Cakebread is really versatile. It opens with a black raspberry and blackberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, and savory. The flavor profile is a mild oak infused ripe blackberry with notes of black plum. I also picked up a touch of black licorice and plum as well. The finish is dry and its fruit and well managed gentle tannins settle in nicely. This Zin is pretty food friendly and it would pair nicely with braised short rib ravioli. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Our 2010 Zinfandel showcases bright raspberry, black cherry and dark plum aromas complemented by intriguing dusty earth, black pepper and milk chocolate scents. On the rich and lively palate, it delivers pure, deeply concentrated black raspberry, dark cherry and blackberry flavors streaked with mineral and briary spice tones. Beautifully structured with sturdy, but supple tannins, fresh acidity and a long, rich, chocolate-y finish, this mountain Zinfandel wine is delightful to drink now, but will surely repay another 3-5 years of cellaring.
