Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Zin was the best of the final flight of Zin’s that I covered this month. It opens with a mild boysenberry bouquet with a hint of red currant. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, and very fruit forward. The flavor profile is a very juicy and ripe black raspberry with hints of black pepper and oak. The finish is dry and its big tannins are sticky and linger for a while. This wine is very drinkable now but would also do well in your cellar. There is plenty of fruit to go with the tannins for the long haul. However if you can’t resist enjoy, it with a big rack of barbecue pork ribs. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: When it comes to consistently delivering Zins of a power and intrigue, you have to hand it to Grist. The 2006 Grist Vineyard Zinfandel starts off with heady aromas of wild berries and boysenberry, with hints of pie crust and baking spice. On the palate, its mountain heritage is flaunted with flavors of black and red cherry and wild mixed berries. Taut, fresh and juicy, the vibrant mouth feel slowly segues into slightly dusty tannins, crisp acidity and a slight minerality on the finish.
