Wine Review: This Merlot from Aquinas is a lot of wine for the money and it was a crowd pleaser. It is very dark purple colored and it opens with a pomegranate and red currant bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, well balanced, easy to drink, and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a black currant and gentle oak blend. I also detected a touch of black pepper and a hint of anise. The finish is dry and its mild tannins are tingly and just a tad dusty. This wine would be a very good glass pour option and would pair well Kobe sliders. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This plum colored Merlot expresses Bordeaux like aromatics such as ripe cassis and sweet leather, yet still maintains the forward ripe cherry fruit that the Napa Valley is known for. The palate is very forward with generous and supple black cherry, ripe plum and integrated tannins, making this wine an age worthy Merlot. The finish displays firm tannins laced with sweet vanilla notes. Pair this wine with roasted chicken seasoned with mole sauce, grilled peppers, and saffron rice.
