Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Zinfandel from Acorn won our big blind tasting. It opens with an inviting cherry-cola bouquet with a hint of blueberry. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, well balanced, and quite savory. The flavor profile is a very tasty boysenberry with notes of blueberry. We also detected hints of blackberry, cola and gentle new oak. This is a pretty complex Zin. The finish is dry and its fine tannins allow it to sail away nicely. The panel suggested pairing this impressive Zin with stuffed peppers or filet mignon. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Richly concentrated blackberry and mocha aromas with just a kiss of black pepper burst onto your senses. The spicy, jammy flavors mirror the intensity found in the aroma. Vanillin oak and hints of coffee and anise thread through the lush, juicy mixed berry blend. The flavors deepen, becoming even more concentrated as they fill the palate with their delicious essence. A lovely balance of fruit, oak, and tannins cradles this spicy yet creamy textured Zin, which concludes with a lingering, full finish. Enjoy with braised short ribs, smoked chicken tossed with grilled veggies and pasta, or a classic margherita pizza.
