Wine Review: Big River is consistently one of my favorite single vineyard Zin offerings from Ravenswood and our agreed by recommending this wine again. This bright ruby wine opens with a spicy black cherry bouquet with hints of menthol and cedar. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, has a dry mouthfeel, with dusty black currant flavors. The finish is quite dry and its tannins linger for quite some time. This wine did benefit from being open and getting some air. We thought it would pair well with a rustic beef stew or Manhatten clam chowder. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The 2006 vintage of Big River Zinfandel expresses the most pure characteristics of old vine Zinfandel with a combination of concentration, complexity, and a richness that is unsurpassable. This wine is big, round, and berry filled, with almost a hint of dill, yet filled with jammy and raspberry characteristics. You’ll notice immediately the spicy, plumy character of this particular wine in the nose. Its soft, round, plumy flavors are the essence of old vines expressing their "old vineness." – Joel Peterson
