Wine Review: We have found that South Africa’s strength in white wines is with Chenin Blanc & Sauvignon Blanc, not Chardonnay. However, this offering from Finlayson was one of the better Chards I have tried from South Africa. This light yellow wine opens with a light oak and cheesy like bouquet. On the palate, this medium bodied wine shows nice balance between its acidity and creaminess. The flavor profile is slightly complex with citrus like flavors with notes of light lime, pineapple, and a touch of oak seeping through. The finish is dry and fades away nicely. We felt this was a very nice food wine that would pair well with chicken and broccoli served over pasta with a rich cream sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Fermented in classic Burgundian fashion then matured “sur lie” for eight months in traditional 225 litres press. Bottled and matured for eighteen months before release. The wine reflects a traditional mineral quality which is symptomatic of the vineyards austere terroir. Bright and fruity with green apple and citrus flavours. Enriched by guava and honeysuckle tones with vanilla and a hint of butterscotch flavour.
