Wine Review: Those you that have been reading KWG for a long time know I really love Shiraz and especially with a dollop of Viognier mixed in. This very dark opaque purple offering from the Black Chook is quite satisfying and a bargain as well. This wine opens with a tremendously inviting bouquet of ripe cherries and blueberries with a hint of cedar. There is a lot going on in the nose of this wine. On the palate, this full bodied wine is well balanced, juicy, and offer fruit forward ripe blueberry flavors with hints of plum and spice. The finish is nicely dry, has very fine tannins, and lingers nicely. The more I drank this very food friendly wine, the more I liked it. It’s a keeper and a steal at $18. Kudo’s to winemaker Ben Riggs on such a fine effort. Cheers – Ken

Winemaker Notes: Co-fermenting small amounts of Viognier skins with Shiraz adds a wonderful apricot perfume, at the same time as intensifying the deep rich colour and velvety mouthfeel of the wine.
