Wine Review: I think some of the best wines to come out of the Paso Robles region are their red blends and this one is one of those really nice wines. This ruby red wine opens with a pleasant berry bouquet. On the palate, the wine is smooth as silk and well balanced. This wine has terrific fruit flavors that make your palate sing. The finish is nicely dry and a bit prolonged. Enjoy this wine with a big juicy steak. Zenaida Cellars was a nice discovery for me, seek out their Zephyr, you won’t be disappointed. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: The inspiration behind this blend is the wines of Cote Rotie. Syrah and Viognier from this region are commonly grown together in the same fields and are picked and fermented together. Viognier usually makes up a small percentage of the blend giving the usually dark and earthy Syrah an interesting perfumed lift. The varietals for the Zephyr Estate Cuvee were grown and fermented separately and later blended with the idea of putting a wine together that had the feel of Cote Rotie. The blend created a wine that is fruit packed, concentrated, and multifaceted as well. The blend is comprised of the 2005 Zinfandel to add a large and direct fruit component, as well as the 2005 Estate Syrah which gives the wine structure and girth, and finally in Cote Rotie style, a small percentage of 2005 Viognier was blended in to lift and arouse the senses.
