Wine Review: This slightly opaque and deep ruby colored Zinfandel from the Mendocino Ridge region in California opens with a blackberry tea and cedar bouquet with hints of cola and dark chocolate. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with very fresh acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, round, smooth, and bright. The flavor profile is a tasty marionberry and black plum blend with notes of fine-grained stone dust. I also detected some hints of thyme and some touches of anise and muddled mint. The finish is dry and flavors, acidity and well-managed fine tannins are nicely extended. I would pair this food friendly Zin with a grilled hanger steak. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Dark purple in the glass and I do mean dark. Aromatically very berry in the black fruit spectrum, with brambly woodsy notes and blood orange zest. Also smells like the forest of Douglas Fir, madrone and tan oak that surround the vineyard. Fresh. The palate is bold, mouth filling and juicy. Blackberry, mulberry herbal notes of sage and thyme. Moderate tannins give it some “grip”. For meat lovers especially, on the outdoor grill crowd, this is your kind of wine. Rosemary grilled ribeye with a gorgonzola butter and you’re in Heaven! Should age nicely but drinking well now.
