Wine Review: A valiant effort from the Dr. Loosen group. People don't think about it but the Germans have been making sparkling wine for quite some time; Henkell being one of the older, if not oldest, winery that was founded in 1856. The Villa Wolf line by Dr. Loosen is meant to exemplify other German wine regions and varietals. This sparkling Pinot Noir Rose (Blanc de Noirs for most other producers) is bright and inviting. The flavors are on the lighter side but you can still pick out notes of raspberry and orange zest. This sparkler is a brilliant light pink in the glass which reminds you of a Provencal rose. The finish is a nice length and has just the right amount of acidity. This sparkler would pair nicely with seared scallops. – Nicolay
Winemaker Notes: This wine is another delicious new idea from Ernst Loosen, owner of Villa Wolf. It builds on the growing popularity of the Villa Wolf Pinot Noir Rose still wine and reflects the fresh and balanced style that all Villa Wolf wines strive to achieve. It is made in a style that is true to the Pinot Noir grape, which produces the most elegant and delightful sparkling wines in the world. The result is a very enjoyable and invigorating Rose Sekt (German for sparkling wine) that is the perfect drink to welcome friends or to enjoy outside on the patio.
