Wine Review: This is a very approachable and food friendly German Pinot Noir is a pale cranberry color, and displays aromas of forest floor, mushroom, red plum, cinnamon, and a bit of red cherry. On the palate it is medium bodied, smooth, and well balanced, with medium acidity. Flavors of earthy cranberry, dark cherry, red plum, wet stone and touches of Earl Grey tea and chocolate. There are integrated fine-grained tannins that persist for a while in the dry tart finish. Pair this good value Pinot with roast Cornish game hens with wild mushroom stuffing. - Mark
Winemaker Notes: A deliciously affordable and approachable Pinot Noir that delivers true varietal character and pure Pinot pleasure. The Villa Wolf Pinot Noir is warm and medium-bodied, with a firm acid structure. Its dark cherry fruit is juicy, ripe, and forward, with a spicy mid-palate. Twelve months of aging in used barriques gives the wine a smoky depth and a nice touch of earthy tannins. This is a very grown-up Pinot Noir for the price, and it's another excellent wine for everyday dining. Fun Fact: Germany is the third largest producer of Pinot Noir (aka Spätburgunder) in the world!
