Wine Review: This almost clear colored Pinot Gris from Germany was the winner of a recent mini-tasting of good value Pinot Gris. It opens with pear bouquet with hints of vanilla. On the palate, this wine is light to medium bodied and nicely balanced. The flavor profile is a tasty green apple with notes of mineralty. I also detected hints of grapefruit towards the end. The finish is dry and its flavors linger nicely. This Pinot Gris is very food friendly and would pair well with swordfish skewers. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The cool, wet growing season in 2013 made it challenging to get fully ripe, healthy fruit at harvest time. But through patience and careful selection, we were able to bring in a small but excellent crop. The wines have turned out brilliantly due to elevated acid levels, with a high proportion of “ripe” tartaric acidity. The Pinot Gris has a pure, grapey aroma with a touch of melon. Good concentration and bright acidity give it a juicy, expansive mid-palate and an invigorating crackle on the finish.
