Wine Review: It’s been a long time since I covered Viader. Too long. I had the pleasure to enjoy this wine recently at dinner during my recent trip to California. Wow this wine was impressive. Its color is pitch black. It opens with a mild black currant bouquet with a pleasant hint of spice. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, extremely well balanced, silky, and elegant. The flavor profile is a delicious blend of ripe blackberry with a touch of black currant. The finish is dry and its building fine tannins are quite lengthy. Everyone at our table really enjoyed it. You will as well. Cheers – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Our 2005 VIADER reaches a more sophisticated, almost "aristocratic" elegance, showing initial notes of mocha and tobacco leaf supporting the ripe black fruit. Enticingly sweet brown sugar notes on the nose complement currant and mineral undertones typical of wines coming from Howell Mountain's volcanic soil. On the palate, this wine shows refined, supple tannins with a persistent cashmere finish.
