Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Red Blend from V. Sattui opens with a brown sugar and cola bouquet with hints of prune and black olive. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, smooth, fresh and a bit lively. The flavor profile is red currant and tart black plum blend with notes of cedar, mocha, and red licorice. We also detected hints of molasses, oolong tea, and salami. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and managed medium tannins are nicely sustained. The Tasting Panel would pair this red blend with a charcuterie platter with hard cheeses and cured meats. Enjoy - KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Our 2021 La Merica celebrates and honors our winery's Italian heritage with a modern interpretation of a classic pre-prohibition blend. Though proprietary by nature this wine is largely composed from grape varietals sourced from our estate vineyards Carsi Vineyard and Hibbard Ranch. The star players in this powerhouse blend are some of the key Rhone varietals like Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Grenache along with a few unlikely candidates mixed in to spice things up! These old vine reds grapes produce a purple-hued and opaque in color, with enticing aromas of blueberry, black tea, and hint of earth. Rich flavors of ripe black fruit meet supple tannins that are round on the palate and balanced by a delicate oaky spice and a lingering finish.
