Wine Review: This opaque and midnight purple colored Syrah based blend is an interesting reflection of the 2014 vintage. It opens with an anise, prune and blackberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced and displays soft flavors. Those flavors are a gentle mineral influenced mild black licorice with notes of plum and oak. The finish is rather dry and its dusty tannins build-up and linger for quite a while. I would pair this wine with a super thick juicy Angus burger smothered with sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The SMC zone is where Syrah from the Sonoma Coast is re-acquainted with the best grapes from our traditionally dry-farmed vineyards in Contra Costa County. SMC – Syrah, Mourvedre and Carignane are the predominate varietals for this California Rhone-style blend. They are also supported by Petite Sirah and Cinsault. Drink now and enjoy the luscious fresh black cherry flavors and spice overtones. Pair with duck paella or a Moroccan vegetable stew.
