Wine Review: This opaque and very dark ruby colored Malbec from Three Rivers is impressive. It opens with a blackberry, black licorice and oak bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, juicy and dense for a Malbec. The flavor profile is an extracted blackberry and oak blend with notes of anise and boysenberry. I also detected hints of espresso. The finish is rather dry and its sticky tannins build up and stick around for quite a while. This Malbec is still very young. I would decant it in the near term and serve it with a well-marbled ribeye. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: I fell in love with Malbec while in Argentina and am fortunate to make my own rendition here in Walla Walla since 2005. Our 2016 Columbia Valley Malbec delivers rich, satisfying aromatics in each glass. Notes of bright Salal berry, blackberry and raspberry dominate. The palate offers refined balance and depth with baking spices and white pepper on the palate. Elegant tannins complement the mouthfeel on the finish.
