Wine Review: This dark red colored Nerello Mascalese from Etna opens with a red raspberry and graphite bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and savory. The flavor profile is a mild strawberry and stony minerality blend with notes of craisin and saline. I also detected hints of Swedish fish. The finish is dry, and its edgy tannins and flavors are nicely prolonged. This Nerello would pair well with grilled bratwurst. Enjoy – Ken

Winemaker Notes: This specific viticultural context creates wines of rare elegance and depth. This wine has a bright ruby red color that tends towards mahogany during aging; on the nose it is quite rich and complex with spicy and balsamic notes. The taste is powerful but balanced and fruity with notes of red fruits and licorice; in the mouth it presents an important structure with present but velvety tannins, the acidity is never particularly evident while the alcohol, rather high, helps to mitigate the effect of the tannins and create aromatic complexity and length of taste. Pair with second courses of red meat and game, or long-matured cheeses.
