Wine Review: This midnight purple colored Petite Sirah from Stag’s Leap is a crowd pleaser and was the winner of our most recent blind tasting. It opens with a Dr. Pepper and moist pipe tobacco bouquet. We also detected hints of vanilla oak. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, smooth and velvety. The flavor profile is a mild mineral and gentle oak blend with notes of anise. We also detected hints of black tea, blueberry and dark chocolate. The finish is dry and its nicely integrated dusty tannins are drawn out and extended. The Panel suggested pairing this popular Petite Sirah with Roy’s rib roast. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: The 2017 Petite Sirah is vibrant and expressive with a cornucopia of blackberry, blueberry and black cherry fruits interwoven with floral musky notes of violet and jasmine. On the palate, juicy flavors of creamy cassis, macerated blackberry, cherry kirsch, black licorice and peppery plum envelope the rich, saturated mouthfeel, followed by a subtle black gunpowder tea, allspice and black pepper note from the oak ageing integrates seamlessly. This wine is intense and robust with velvety tannins and a generous lengthy finish, with acidity supporting throughout. We encourage you to enjoy it now, but it has enough depth and complexity to age for many years to come.
