Wine Review: This midnight purple colored "Reserve" level Zinfandel from St. Francis opens with a blackberry and mild black licorice bouquet with of espresso. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, super smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is a dark chocolate and espresso blend with notes of stewed black plum and black licorice. I also detected hints of boysenberry and light oak. The finish is dry and its flavors and fine tannins drift away nicely. This Zinfandel is very food friendly and versatile. I would pair this Zin with a filet mignon with compound butter and fig-red wine reduction sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Aromas of wild blackberry, dried cherry and licorice complement the silky texture and flavors of boysenberry preserves, mixed berry galette and savory spices.
