Wine Review: This ruby colored red blend from Spring Mountain was one of the top finishers in our recent High End Red Blind Tasting. It opened with a fragrant red cherry and pomegranate bouquet with hints of fig. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, well balanced, and very smooth. The flavor profile is a fruit forward ripe black cherry with notes of red currant. We also detected a hint of menthol, cassis, and gentle oak. The finish is dry and its fine tannins linger nicely for quite some time. The panel felt this wine was ready to go and would pair well with a filet mignon over the next couple of years. This is the best Elivette in several years. You should seek some out for a holiday gift for your boss or best client. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Abundant aromas of blackberry, cassis and smoky black cherry layer with spice notes of cinnamon and star anise, black tea and cola. A lush and silky entry reveals a graceful, structured wine of good size and weight. Well-integrated tannins shape a core of classic Spring Mountain cherry fruit with attending notes of mulberry, espresso and spice. The long, lingering finish echoes like a Cole Porter melody. The 2009 Elivette is quite approachable in its youth, and will benefit from 1-2 hours in a decanter before service. Drink 2012 – 2030.
