Wine Review: This slightly opaque and ruby colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Spottswoode is Excellent! It opens with a very aromatic red raspberry and black cherry bouquet with a hint of cranberry. On the palate, this wine is medium to full bodied, nicely balanced and a little juicy. The flavor profile is a very tasty black cherry and black currant blend with notes of oak and minerality. The finish is rather dry and its building tannins are substantial, but do not get in the way. As a matter of fact, this was the longest finish of the year. That said, I would decant it in the near term and serve it with a well-marbled ribeye. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: This wine exudes power and elegance. Dense and focused with primary, bright, youthful, fresh characters. Plenty of ripe blue and red fruit accompanied by notes of mocha, carob, butterscotch, and toast. Hints of dried herb and rose petal. Long, clean, and fresh, its strong acid backbone is a hallmark of what will be another long-lived, collectible wine. Discernable tannins that are youthful yet lengthy complement the underlying intense fruit. Great texture! All the promise you like to find in a young wine.
