Wine Review: This pale straw colored Alvarinho from Portugal opens with a honeydew melon and lime bouquet with a hint of nectarine. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The round mouthfeel nicely coats your mouth and is balanced and bright. The flavor profile is a saline and honeydew melon with notes of lime, stony minerality, and gentle grapefruit. I also detected some hints of ginger and lemon verbena. The finish is dry and quite refreshing. This wine was popular at the beach. It would pair nicely with broiled scallops. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Rightfully bearing the name Granit, this wine is all about minerality. It offers less fruit and more acidity, revealing an unusual dimension of Alvarinho from the mountain. Its elegance and crisp texture make Soalheiro Granit a very gastronomic wine. Granit has a bright, lemon-yellow color, exhibiting elegant aromas with more mineral notes. The taste is crisp, dry, and persistent, with more earthy and stony flavors. There is a sensation of saltiness on the palate, reflecting the impact of the granite soils on Alvarinho. With its mineral flavors and bracing acidity, Soalheiro Granit especially complements Mediterranean cuisine such as seafood, grilled fish, or delicate Asian dishes such as sushi or dumplings.
