Wine Review: Winemaker Peter Rosback told me the Zin grapes used in this wine come from the oldest vines in North America. That was impressive, but not nearly as impressive as the wine. This bright ruby colored Zin opens with a fragrant black cherry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, shows excellent balance, is soft, and smooth. It displays very enjoyable dark berry fruit flavors with notes of black cherry mixed in. The finish is dry and its soft tannins are slightly prolonged. This wine is very approachable and food friendly. Pair it with roasted chicken smothered in a reduced cherry amaretto sauce. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: It is very dark, highly aromatic, with a huge, mouthfilling texture and a long, long finish. If you think old vines don’t matter, you’re wrong and this wine should help convince you. Every year the wine has perfect acid balance (without adjustment) achieving two goals: great match with food, and a long life. The '89 we made still hasn't peaked. This is very special wine from a very special vineyard.
