Wine Review: I recently had the chance to try the highly acclaimed 2001 vintage of Hillside Select. What I can report is this wine is Excellent and is showing beautifully right now. This pitch black colored wine opens with a spicy black cherry bouquet with hints of truffle. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, well balanced, and still fruit forward. The flavor profile is a delicious blend of blackberry and black raspberry. The finish is dry and its well managed tannins are nicely prolonged. Pair this gorgeous gem with a NY strip steak and enjoy. Winemaker Notes: From the legendary 2001 vintage this Hillside Select offers aromatic, elegant black berry, currant, black cherry, cola, and cassis; rich, stylish dark fruit flavors, with a balanced seasoning of minerals, smoke, vanilla, tobacco, and herbs; a core of sweetness emerges from our hillside fruit with a long, mouth-filling finish of chocolate and spice all surrounded by the classic silky tannins of the Stags Leap District.
