Wine Review: This opaque and very dark ruby colored Barbera from Sonoma Valley is very good. It opens with a blackberry and black licorice like bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, juicy and lush as it completely coats the mouth. Like the bouquet, the flavor profile is a rich blackberry and black licorice blend with notes of plum. I also detected a hint of spice, mild oak, and a dash of black pepper. This is a pretty flavorful and complex wine. The finish is rather dry and its tannins stick around for quite a while. This Barbera would pair well with a New York strip steak. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Our 2009 Barbera is opaque! The nose jumps out of the glass with all the licorice and anise one expects from this Northern Italian variety. Complex aromas of dark roast coffee and vanilla add to its sexy, Italian pedigree. The flavors explode with concentrated raspberry fruit framed by balancing acidity and tannin. Lingering wild berry and spicy notes continue on the palate. This wine is big without being cumbersome. It is a monumental Barbera that ranks as the finest we have ever produced in our long history at Sebastiani.
