Wine Review: This slightly cloudy and dark ruby colored Merlot from Schweiger opens with a blueberry and cherry bouquet with hints of strawberry Twizzler, peony florals and saw dust. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, smooth, and polished. The flavor profile is a cedar, stony minerality and black plum blend with notes of green tea and pomegranate. We also detected some hints of mild red currant and kitchen spice. The finish is dry and its well-managed dusty tannins drift away nicely. The Tasting Panel would suggest pairing this Merlot with filet mignon or grilled hanger steak. Enjoy – KWGTP
Winemaker Notes: Our Merlot has that intense mountain grape quality with a layered tannin backbone. This particular vintage is 100% varietal to showcase the layered black fruits you expect from a high elevation Merlot like blackberries and cherries with dark chocolate, but laced with the usual Schweiger Merlot notes of pomegranate, blueberry, and boysenberry. Blue cheese creations will always win without Merlot but the darker saltiness of chicken tikka masala, sauteed shiitake mushrooms, or a juicy gorgonzola burger would be delicious, too.
