Wine Review: This pitch-black colored Syrah from Robert Foley opens with a black currant and leather bouquet with hints of black cherry, oak, and blueberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced, very smooth, and seamless. The flavor profile is a black currant and black plum blend with notes of stone dust, smoked meat, and oolong tea. We also detected hints of faint oak and blueberry. The finish is dry, and its flavors, acidity, and well-managed mild tannins drift away nicely. The Tasting Panel would pair this Syrah with a mushroom risotto and veal osso buco. Enjoy – KWGTP

Winemaker Notes: Ripe red fruit aromas, a rich mid-palate, soft tannins, long finish. The Solari Syrah block grows on a deposit of gravel from an ancient river bottom, north of Calistoga, near the headwaters of the Napa River at Mount St Helena’s base. The extreme drainage this gravel provides allows the Syrah grape to develop very dark pigments and highly extractable black fruit flavors, aromas and textures while retaining a perfect acid balance. With focus on its varietal character, the composition is 100% single vineyard Syrah aged in entirely neutral French oak barrels. Drinkable in its youth, this bottling will continue to evolve gracefully for many years.
