Wine Review: This midnight purple colored blend from Robert Foley opens with a black currant and blackberry bouquet with notes of moist pipe tobacco and black licorice. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with bright medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, very smooth, dense, and savory. The flavor profile is an anise and blackberry blend with notes of cedar and black currant. I also detected some hints of graphite, black pepper, and espresso. The finish is dry and its moderate tannins build-up and linger for quite a while. This big boy wine will pair nicely with a well-marbled grilled ribeye steak this summer. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Like its namesake, this Griffin is a powerful combination of strengths. This year's blend is super dark in color, the contributions of Petite Sirah and Syrah are immediately evident. Aromas of ripe red and black fruit marry with a hint of cedar. On the palate this ripe rich red blend is amazingly lively – the weight of the Rhône varieties balanced perfectly by the mid-palate of our classic Merlot. A bit of Charbono completes the dance! Having just enough grip in the finish makes this a very approachable, versatile, food-friendly red wine.
