Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Pinot Noir from Robert Foley is very Old World styled and unique. It opens with a mahogany shavings and black cherry bouquet with a hint of band-aid that swirls off. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied with nicely integrated gentle acidity. The mouthfeel is round and smooth. The flavor profile is mild cedar plank influenced black plum with hints of truffles, dried strawberry and Chinese five spice. The finish is dry and its very fine grain tannins subtly drift away. This old school styled Pinot would pair well beef bourguignon. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Unique for the Carneros region of the southern Napa Valley, the 2015 Pinot Noir from the Hudson Vineyard is quite Burgundian in style. The stressed vines of this vineyard and the cool proximity to the Bay keeps the natural acidity in perfect balance. There are two separate cuvées that were aged in two separate oak regimes to create a beautiful pair of wines that are barrel-aged one year in Burgundian cooperage sur lie, followed by 5 years of bottle age. The final wine displays hints of strawberry and fertile soil that interplay within a framework of abundant natural acidity that is balanced with gentle tannins. The flavors carry on in a long finish on the palate. The wine simply beckons for another mouthful!
