Wine Review: This pitch black colored Cabernet Sauvignon from Robert Foley is a big boy! It opens with a very inviting cassis bouquet with a hint of blueberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced, fruit forward and lush. The flavor profile is a very concentrated blueberry and Dr. Pepper blend with notes of 85% cacao dark chocolate and nicely integrated mild flinty minerality mixed in. There are also hints of oak and acai berry towards the end. The finish is dry and this has dry and big dusty tannins that stick around for a very very long time. This is a very hedonistic Cab for the 2014 vintage. I would decant it for an hour and serve it with a well-marbled ribeye. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Our 2014 "Purple Label" Napa Valley Cabernet is 100% varietal in composition, yet it is a blend of ridge-top Atlas Peak fruit and the stony Calistoga vineyard where the high rocks there create thermals, drawing warming air through the vine rows, working the magic of ripening. Fully ripe cherry pie. Mid-palate gives the impression, sweet fruit and just a hint of mocha. Pleasantly mouth-coating, amply tannin in the finish linger on and on. This vintage is delicious in its youth but will continue to deliver with many years of proper bottle aging.
