Wine Review: We recently covered the latest Charbono from Bob Foley at his wine dinner at the Stonehedge Inn. It was very dark purple and opaque in color. It opens with a fragrant and inviting boysenberry bouquet with hints of black currant. On the palate, the wine is full bodied, balanced, and a tad rustic. The flavor profile is a mineral infused black plum with notes of oak and blackberry, I also detected hints of black currant as time passed in the glass. The finish is dry and its flavors are nicely prolonged. We felt the longer this wine was in the glass, the better it got. So we would recommend decanting it in the near term to experience its full potential. It went very well with our coffee rubbed Bison tenderloin. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The Charbono shows a rare combination for a California red of thorough ripeness and bright tangy acidity. The beautiful deep, opaque ruby color provides a visual clue to the ripeness, which shows again in aromas of mixed berry fruit jam and vanilla. The full mid palate is framed with lively acidity that gives way to velvety soft tannin in the finish. This is a very versatile food wine!
