Wine Review: This Napa Merlot by Bob Foley is Excellent. It is slightly opaque and dark ruby colored. It opens with a fragrant and inviting cherry-cola like bouquet with a hint of boysenberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and smooth. The flavor profile is a delicious blueberry with notes of nicely integrated oak. I also detected a hint of black pepper and Dr. Pepper. The finish is dry and its flavors linger are nicely prolonged. Robert Foley is clearly on top of his game with this Merlot. Pair it with filet mignon and enjoy! - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Howell Mountain Merlot was blended with a Calistoga cuvee to create our 2011 Merlot. A very dark color of blackberry-pie is the first suggestion of the degree of extraction of this 100% Merlot. The aroma of blackberry, black cherry and a trace of vanilla are fresh and appealingly ripe. Very full bodied and rich on the palate, it smoothly coats the mouth while very soft fine tannins frame a flood of fruit. The acidity is in perfect balance and the finish lingers with a subtle suggestion of espresso and chocolate.
