Wine Review: This opaque and very dark purple colored wine was very popular with our group at the Robert Foley dinner at the Stonehedge Inn. It opens with a fragrant boysenberry bouquet with a hint of blackberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, very well balanced, and ultra smooth. The flavor profile is a delicious blackberry with notes of black raspberry and black pepper. There are hints of spice and gentle oak in the background as well. The finish is dry and its well managed tannins drift away nicely. This wine would be a perfect match with filet mignon. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The first wine bottled under the Robert Foley Vineyards label was our 1998 Claret which was a non-varietal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, neither variety constituting more than 75% of the blend. As the vintages have rolled by, our proportion of Cabernet has increased and our Claret has evolved into a Cabernet Sauvignon. This is our flagship wine. The 2007 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. We’ve blended mountain fruit from Howell Mountain, Mt Veeder and Atlas Peak with Cabernet grapes from warmer Calistoga to produce an extracted wine, even across the palate and aromatically intoxicating.
