Wine Review: This deep purple colored Zinfandel based wine from Ridge opens with a complex bouquet of boysenberry, dark chocolate and moist pipe tobacco with hints of wild strawberry, flint and allspice. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, balanced, smooth and has a very nice mouthfeel. The flavor profile is stewed plum and mild graphite blend with notes of gentle blackberry, cinnamon and allspice. I also detected hints of oak, herbal tea and a touch of prune towards the very end. The finish is dry and its well-managed mild tannins drift away nicely. I would pair this very well-crafted, tamed and food friendly Zinfandel with a filet mignon. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Dark ruby color. Intense black cherry fruit aroma, exotic oak spice, cola, mint, and complex gravel earth. Intense bramble fruit entry, sensuous textural tannins, lively acid, and showing great minerality in a long finish. Pairs well with duck confit or a North Carolina pulled pork sandwich.
