Wine Review: This brick red colored Tempranillo from Rioja opens with a red plum and cedar bouquet with hints of blueberry and chocolate. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied with medium plus acidity. The mouthfeel is nicely balanced and very smooth. The flavor profile is a black tea and black plum blend with notes of cedar, stony minerality, and cinnamon. I also picked up some hints of black pepper. The finish is rather dry, and its dusty tannins stick around for quite a while. I would pair this Tempranillo with a grilled skirt steak. Enjoy - Ken

Winemaker Notes: Labastida always has a later harvest due to elevation and offers an expressive and aromatic expression of tempranillo. The cooler, rockier, and higher elevation sites here produce a wine lower in alcohol but higher in acidity and tannins than that of neighboring San Vicente de la Sonsierra.
