Wine Review: This very dark ruby colored Aussie Red blend from Red Schooner opens with a fragrant black raspberry and black coffee bouquet with hints of green olive. On the palate, this wine is full bodied with integrated medium acidity. The mouthfeel is balanced, round and fruit forward. The flavor profile is a concentrated boysenberry and stewed plum blend with notes of black tea, milk chocolate, and cedar. I also detected some hints of strawberry, and root beer in the aftertaste. The finish is dry, and its flavors and mild tannins are nicely prolonged. I would pair this Malbec with a seared duck breast with cherries and port sauce. Enjoy – Ken
Winemaker Notes: Grapes for this Malbec are grown in the Andes Mountains of Argentina, then chilled and transported by ocean voyage to Caymus, where we use our winemaking techniques to create a style that is dense, dark, and supple. Falling outside standard labeling rules, Red Schooner does not include a vintage date but is known by the voyage from which it traveled (i.e. Voyage 11 is the 2021 vintage). Strikingly smooth, with scents and flavors of dark fruit and fine, textural tannins.
