Wine Review: This opaque and midnight purple colored Zinfandel from Ravenswood is rather rustic. It opens with a blackberry bouquet with a hint of boysenberry. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, balanced and savory. The flavor profile is a blackberry pie with notes of boysenberry, black tea and dusty minerality. I also detected hints of old oak in the background. The finish is dry and its dusty tannins and flavors show nice length. Give this wine some time and air upon opening. It opens up and evolves nicely. Pair it with slow cooked short ribs. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: Likely one of the most perfumed wines of the region, eliciting ethereal qualities on the nose. It will strike lovers of claret-style wines with Cabernet-like structure and form. Aromas of black fruit, gooseberry, and orange zest, this wine will bring out the best flavors of your typical California cuisine.
