Wine Review: This dark ruby colored Big Boy Zinfandel from Ravenswood is very nice. It opens with a mild black raspberry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is full bodied, rich and very concentrated. The flavor profile is an extracted blackberry with notes of oak and minerality. I also detected hints of anise and a little black cherry in the background. The finish is dry and its fruit flavors and well managed tannins drift away nicely. This big Zin with a lot of Petite Sirah. It is not for readers who like mild wines. This wine is ideal for drinking on its own by the campfire. Enjoy - Ken
Winemaker Notes: The 2012 Barricia Vineyard Zinfandel is a weighty wine with good texture. Black fruit and dark spice are matched with good acidity.
